View schedule of upcoming training dates

The Industry Common Induction (ICI) provides staff with a health and safety induction for working in construction sites, rail depots and station maintenance. It covers the safety procedures and risks that are common across the rail industry, whatever the role and type of site.

Effective from 1st June 2016, the Industry Common Induction (ICI) will be mandatory for working on any Network Rail IP sponsored project.

Individuals who attend site without an ICI, but their duties require them to hold the competency should be asked to gain ICI within 12 site visits or within 6 weeks of 1st June 2016. After 6th of July 2016, individuals who have not complied with the mandate shall be rejected from site. See attached letter for further details.

ICI covers the safety procedures and risks that are common across the rail industry, whatever the role and type of site. Its aims are to:

1. Drive safety; ensuring staff have a core competence in a health safety and environment
2. Drive productivity; reduce the amount of time taken to access sites
3. Drive consistency; covering safety procedures and risks that are common across the rail industry
4. Allow more focus; tailored briefs focusing on site risks and hazards specific to a location
5. Provide an entry level competency for working in the rail industry

E-Learning - Before attending the ICI Assessment it is recommended that candidates complete the ICI induction which is delivered as a short e-learning module. Once you are confident that you understand the topics covered in the induction, you will undertake an Assessment.

E-Learning can be conducted remotely or at Infrasafe's e-learning facilities. Please note it is the sponsor's responsibility to create login details for the e-learning system.

The assessment is completed via e-learning under 'closed book test' conditions and facilitated by an RTAS approved invigilator. Once the candidate has passed the assessment, the ICI competence will be recorded on their Sentinel card.
