Magnetic Track Diagrams

Infrasafe is constantly developing its services to achieve best practice in railway safety operations. Tasked with designing a management system to control a major 70 mile long possession, the company developed a format using Magnetic Track Diagrams (MTD’s) which has now become industry benchmark used by Network Rail and leading rail companies.

Each MTD is a large scale landscape board which illustrates the section of railway infrastructure required for the work or possession. The board comes complete with magnetic symbols to denote worksites, trains and other key features. It can be displayed within a designated possession control centre and acts as an easy-to-use focal point which can be updated ‘on the spot’. As a visual reference guide, the board allows the PICOP or Engineering Supervisor to conduct clear and consistent communications with the signaling control centre and at ground level.

The MTD system will quickly become an indispensable everyday work tool and a permanent fixture within a possession centre or work station. The ease and simplicity of this system makes it highly effective in enhancing communications and working methods and reducing the risk of incidents.
