Core Planner 1 & 2

Duration of course: 2 Days (Stage 1), 3 Days (Stage 2)

Maximum no. of Candidates: 8 (Core Planner 1),  6 (Core Planner 2)

Course aims:
This course is intended for candidates who wish to plan safe engineering access and safe systems of work on Network Rail’s infrastructure

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of stage 1 candidates will be able to:
• Demonstrate an understanding of the requirements for planning routine safe systems of work
• Proceed towards Stage 2

Upon successful completion of stage 2candidates will be able to:
• Demonstrate an understanding of the requirements for planning safe systems of work for a wide range of activities on the railway

Other information
• Following successful completion of the course candidates receive a Core Planner Skills competence card

Venue
Our modern training centre in Gateshead or we can arrange training at a location to suit your needs

Course Content:
• Terms used in the railway industry
• Types and location of infrastructure assets and railway works
• The role of the Controller Of Site Safety (COSS) and Individual Working Alone (IWA)
• The Rule Book and other requirements for work on or near the line
• Using reference sources such as the Sectional Appendix, Hazard Directory etc.
• Planning of safe systems of work on the infrastructure

There is a formal assessment at the end of the courses that requires the candidates to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of what they have learned.
